During the international congress “The Brushstroke of God” in Mérida, experts will present evidence supporting the existence of the Virgin of Guadalupe, blending science and faith.
On August 24th and 25th, Mérida will become the epicenter of a spiritually and culturally significant event as representatives from the Vatican participate in the international congress “The Brushstroke of God.” This event will explore the connection between the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Shroud of Turin.
The congress will take place at the Siglo XXI Convention Center and is organized by the Superior Institute of Guadalupan Studies (ISEG) and the Pontifical University of Mexico.
David Ricardo Ojeda Correa, the event coordinator and director of the Superior Center for Guadalupan Studies at the Pontifical University of Mexico, revealed that the conference will present evidence supporting the existence of the Virgin of Guadalupe, bridging science and faith.
“We have medical, astronomical, geographical, historical, anthropometric, musical, arithmetic, geometric, and theological evidence demonstrating the authenticity of the Virgin of Guadalupe,” he stated.
One of the highlighted documents to be presented is the Nican Mopohua, a Nahuatl chronicle recounting the Virgin of Guadalupe’s appearance to San Juan Diego in 1531. The version showcased will be a replica of the original document from 1545-1546, considered a key testimony of the Guadalupan miracle by scholars.
Additionally, the congress will feature a replica of the Shroud of Turin, meticulously crafted from linen using traditional techniques. This replica will be accompanied by a reproduction of the letter from Friar Juan de Zumárraga, Mexico’s first bishop. Dated 1529, this historical document emphasizes divine intervention in the Virgin’s protection.
