SPECIALISTS DISCOVER UNDERGROUND CAVE PASSAGE IN YUCATÁN

The Mayab Speleological Circle announced that on April 18th, 2026, five of its members successfully scaled one of the walls of the Santa Cruz Cave.

In their social media post, they reported discovering a very wide passage, extending for more than 300 meters and ending in a siphon which, they mentioned, they will have to explore by diving later.

They also described how, upon entering the area, they spotted speleothems and crystals, among other formations that give the space a unique aura.

The Mayab Speleological Circle describe themselves as a group of civilians committed to the exploration, conservation, study, and dissemination of the underground environments in the Yucatan Peninsula, as well as supporting cave rescue efforts in the region voluntarily.
