In a shocking turn of events, two bodies were found with clear signs of violence at the entrance of a citrus plant in the municipality of Maní, Yucatán. The victims, both between 30 and 40 years old, had been attacked with machetes, leading authorities to believe that the motive behind the crime was robbery.
According to reports, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) stated that it is possible to rule out any connection of the events with organized crime groups. The SSP also reported that investigations are advanced to clarify the facts and apprehend the alleged perpetrators.
The double homicide occurred early Wednesday morning, and the bodies were found 20 meters from the Oxkutzcab-Maní highway. Authorities believe that the attackers arrived at the scene in a compact car, forced the victims to get into the vehicle, and then took them to the location where they lost their lives.
Today the authorities arrested two suspects from out of state. One of the suspects was found carrying a firearm, while the other had a machete with him. Both individuals were taken into custody by the police and are now being held pending trial.
In a surprising twist, it has been revealed that there is a relationship between the victims and the attackers. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that two relatives of the victims have been detained in connection with the crime.
The two suspects, Manuel Concepción C. C. and Paulino R. N., are 44 and 60 years old, respectively. Manuel is an agricultural worker from Chetumal, Quintana Roo, while Paulino is a ranch caretaker from Mexico City.
It appears that the motive behind the crime was an old robbery dispute between the parties involved. The police and prosecutors have credited the probable responsibility of the imputed individuals in the double crime, bringing some closure to this tragic incident.
The investigation is ongoing, but it seems that justice has been served for the victims’ families.
