The non-profit organization “Kuch Kaab Yéetel J-Men Maayab´ob” (Council of Mayan Priestly Elders), is preparing for the upcoming Maya New Year celebration, which will take place at the archaeological site of Chen Hó in Fraccionamiento del Parque, a location chosen for its cultural value and original state, similar to important sites like Uxmal and Chichén Itzá.
The cultural promoter of the non-profit organization “Kuch Kaab Yéetel J-Men Maayab´ob”, Rodolfo Puch Valencia, mentioned that the arrival of the Maya New Year will be celebrated with a series of events and rituals aimed at keeping alive the rich cultural heritage of this ancient civilization.
This Friday, July 26th, at 6:00 PM, in the park located on the east side of Mérida’s city center, the main ceremony to welcome the Maya New Year will take place. The event is expected to bring together over ten principal priests from the Kuchacá Council and will feature the participation of civil associations, Mayan teachers from various regions such as Valladolid, Quintana Roo, and Campeche, as well as guardians of ancestral knowledge.
Rodolfo Valencia explained that each year’s ceremony is unique, adapting to the signs and behaviors of nature, according to Mayan astronomers and numerologists. This year, the chosen symbol represents the rebirth and continuity of the life cycle.
