Esaú Velázquez Sosa, head of Profeco’s (Federal Consumer Protection Agency) representation in Merida, stated that since the start of summer vacation, they have received an increase in complaints at the airport in Merida. To address these concerns, various actions have been taken to ensure consumers are protected from any additional costs or lost tickets.
Velazquez explained that most complaints arise from issues related to airlines, such as system failures, and emphasized that it is essential for airports to adhere to regulations during this time.
He reported receiving between 15-16 complaints daily, mainly at the Merida airport. Additionally, some consumers have complained about alleged problems with buses, restaurants, and bars.
To address these concerns, PROFECO conducts regular monitoring of businesses throughout the summer vacation period without requiring a citizen report.
Velazquez acknowledged that all complaints are handled through conciliation rather than suspension or immobilization. The goal is to resolve issues amicably, supporting consumers when necessary.
