ISSSTE workers protests in Mérida; denounce threats and demand justice.

- July 15, 2024

Led by nurse María Teresa de Jesús Puc Pool, a group of workers from the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) went to the offices of the institution’s delegation in Mérida to demand an adequate investigation into their administrative complaint filed due to irregularities in the process of delivering job openings.

The health workers demanded that the investigation into their administrative complaint, which was presented last Friday, be carried out properly and that the accused officials be suspended. “We have a petition demanding respect for the law as mentioned by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador,” said Puc Pool. “We are asking that refrendos de escalafón (opportunities for promotions) be respected and that a precautionary measure be applied: people should be suspended from their positions to prevent them from continuing to access tests and better job positions.”

The workers denounced that after the demand was made public, they were threatened by accountant Alejandro Ruiz Nicoli, one of those accused. “Many colleagues are being threatened,” said Puc Pool. “They told us ‘we know very well who you are and you won’t get away with this.'”

As previously reported, the group of workers accuses corruption, influence trafficking, nepotism, and conflict of interests to Dr. Martha Montemayor Curiel, Issste’s medical subdelegated; accountant Alejandro Ruiz Nicolli, who holds the position of administrative subdelegate; Lic. María Eugenia Magdalena Sosa Bojórquez, technical secretary of escalafón; psychologist Adriana Negrón Castilla, technical secretary of job market; as well as citizen Reyes Martín Arceo Acevedo, general secretary of Section 36 of the National Union of ISSSTE Workers; Lic. María Janeth Castilla López, secretary of escalafón, and nursing student Julia Esther Chay Cárdenas, who is commissioned by the Union as a job market secretary.
